I often wonder if I’m obsessed with glass

I often wonder whether I am obsessed with glass, or simply in love with it. I’m certainly in awe. I can while away hours humouring myself with dreams of my next piece which will usually be a magnificent sculpture of a wave lifting itself from the sea and collapsing...

Inspiration

I have to admit that I can’t abide clichés and yet I find myself using them when I’m at a loss for words, I cringe into my coffee whilst typing, or indeed uttering a clichéd statement, but there are times when only a cliché will do. Every time someone asks me where I...

About Me

My journey with glass began in 2013 when I attended a local workshop and very quickly became hooked on the process.

Over the following two years I continued attending workshops regularly until
November 2015 when I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
During my recovery, my hobby became my therapy. I would sit at my kitchen table making glass art, relentlessly, almost every day, for eight months.
I was learning, practicing, making mistakes and adapting. Creating simple pieces for myself, my family and my friends.

People seemed to like what I did, so in 2016 I purchased my first kiln and started to sell my work at a few art and craft fairs.

As I progressed I wanted to improve the quality of my work and develop my skills and techniques. I am a perfectionist at heart and I needed to understand the process beyond putting two pieces of glass together and hoping the kiln worked some kind of magic…

Because it isn’t magic. Understanding the relationship between the glass and the kiln requires knowledge and skill.

To acquire this information I started to attend workshops and courses with glass artists whose work I had admired, including Roberta Ayles, Laura Hart, Claire Hall, Alice Benvie Gebhart and Miriam Di Fiore.

In 2019 I gave up my full time job to focus on my development as an artist.
I attended an enamelling course at West Dean College under the guidance of Pat Johnson.
Enamel is simply glass in another form and the effects of fast and high firing fascinated me.
I continued to practice enamelling and have added enamelled copper bowls and vessels to my repertoire.

Over the last few years my business has grown and flourished.

Today I work as a full time Artist. My work sells in shops and galleries throughout Leicestershire and Northamptonshire and
I attend various art and craft fairs throughout the year.
I am a member of the Harborough Artists Cluster and Northampton Open Studios and my work is featured in House and Garden Magazine – Summer Art Edit 2023.

I welcome commissions, distance is no issue, my work has been shipped to various countries throughout Europe, and to the USA and Canada.

Glass Art defines my life, it affects the way I look at things and fuels my creative desires.

Today I primarily work with glass powders, enamels and frits (crushed glass).

I am proud to acknowledge that work has improved beyond recognition from the early days and I feel blessed that I am lucky enough to have a job that gives me such joy and contentment.
